Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park is a wildlife destination which is not to be missed by traveler during their Kerala tour. Located in the Devikulam taluk, Eravikulam National Park was created as a wildlife sanctuary in 1975. This place is renowned across the globe for its scenic landscape, green meadows, pristine valley and diverse collection of plants and animal species. Large number of wildlife lovers, nature enthusiasts, adventure freaks and photographers come here from across the globe to enjoy the scenic spell of this wildlife.

The landscape of Eravikulam National Park Kerala consists of undulating hills and grassy knolls. The natural forests in this area are known as Shola and Eravikulam National Park has several characteristic patches of Shola, where the native flora and fauna can be observed. The green hills and rolling slopes are a beautiful sight and have been compared to the Alpine meadows of Switzerland. Many species of rare plants including the Neelkurinji, which gives the Nilgiri Hills its blue color, can be seen in the forests of Eravikulam.

Among the hills in Eravikulam National Park Kerala is Anaimudi the tallest peak in South India, which rises to a height of 2694 m. Its name means the tuft of an elephant and refers to the hairy top of an elephant's head. This is the highest peak of the Western Ghats situated at a height of 2,695 metres above sea level. The grandiose height of this peak heightens the scenic charm this wildlife reserve. It is the perfect place for adventure enthusiast tourists who love trekking, hiking, camping and mountaineering. During trekking tourists gets an opportunity to witness the soul stimulating natural beauty. From the majestic height of this peak one can also have the bird's eye view of entire surroundings which captivates visitor's attentions for long time.

Some of the animals you can see on tours of Eravikulam National Park with Kerala Backwater are, over a thousand Nilgiri Tahr, tigers, leopards, jungle cats, civet cats, wild boar, sloth bear, Nilgiri Langur, squirrels, mongoose and snakes and reptiles. Many species of butterflies and moths are also seen. The Atlas Moth, one of the world's largest moths is also found in Eravikulam National Park.

The climate in Eravikulam national park is pleasant year round. It rains very heavily during the monsoon and inters can be frosty but days are mild and excellent for touring the sanctuary and observing animals in their natural state.

How to reach:

Air : Cochin International airport is the nearest airport from the sanctuary.

Rail : The nearest railway station is at Aluva, 115 km from the sanctuary.

Road : The sanctuary can be easily reached from all the major cities of Kerala by road.

DAY 01 : Cochin - Munnar

Day 01 - Upon arrival at Cochin you will be transferred to Munnar. On arrival Check into a Resort. Overnight stay.

DAY 02 : At Munnar

Day 02 - After Breakfast proceed for a full day sightseeing of Munnar. Visit Eravikulam National Park, Tata Tea Museum, Echo Point, Top Station, Mattupetty Dam etc. Overnight at Resort.

DAY 03: Munnar - Kumarakom

Day 03 - Morning drive to Kumarakom. On arrival check in to a resort. Kumarakom is the loveliest Village in Kerala, blessed with nature's rare gifts is on the Eastern side of the vast Vembanad Lake. The lake provides facilities for boating, yachting, fishing, surf riding & swimming. Ideal picnic spot accessible by boat from here is Pathiramanal (Midnight Sands) a lonely island in the lake.

DAY 04: Kumarakom - Alleppey

Day 04 - Morning after breakfast board a houseboat for an Overnight cruise. Cruise through the chains of lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala. Called by the local people as "Kayal" or the backwaters, twisty inland lakes networked by canals stretch to over 1900 km. No trip to Kerala is complete without a backwater cruise on a houseboat, a unique lifetime experience. Ovrnight on Board.

DAY 05: Alleppey to Cochin Departure

Day 05 - Morning depart from Alleppey and drive to Cochin airport / railway station
